SANORD Conference 2024 – UWC Poster Presentation Guidelines

To ensure the success of the electronic poster session, please follow these guidelines. Presenters will each have a 5-minute slot to speak on their posters followed by 5 minutes Q&A.

  1. Poster Display Format

  • Type: Electronic poster (E-poster) displayed on large digital screens.
  • Aspect Ratio: 16:9 (landscape orientation recommended for digital screens).
  • Resolution: Minimum of 1920 x 1080 pixels to ensure clarity on large displays.
  • File Format: PDF or JPEG format is preferred for high-quality images and to prevent any font or formatting issues.

  1. Standard Poster Size

  • Recommended Dimensions: 40 inches (height) x 23 inches (width) or any size that maintains the 16:9 aspect ratio.
  • Ensure the text and visuals are legible on a large screen when viewed from a distance of approximately 1 meter.

  1. Poster Content and Structure

  • Title:
    • Font Size: 72-80 pt.
    • Place at the top of the poster and center-align.
    • Title should be concise and clear, preferably in sentence case.
  • Author(s) and Affiliation(s):
    • Font Size: 36-40 pt.
    • Listed directly below the title.
  • Introduction: Brief overview of the topic.
  • Objectives/Research Question: Clearly stated, concise.
  • Methods: Summarize in a way that’s visually engaging.
  • Results: Use graphs, tables, and visuals to summarize findings.
  • Discussion/Conclusion: Bullet points or key takeaways.
  • Acknowledgments/Funding Sources: Optional, brief.

  1. Text and Font Specifications

  • Font Style: Use simple, sans-serif fonts like Arial, Calibri, or Helvetica for legibility.
  • Font Sizes:
    • Titles: 72-80 pt
    • Headings/Sub-headings: 36-48 pt
    • Body Text: 24-32 pt
    • Captions/Footnotes: 18-24 pt
  • Text Alignment: Left-align text for easy reading, avoid justified text to prevent gaps.
  • Wording: Keep text concise. Avoid dense paragraphs; use bullet points to summarize.

  1. Font Colors and Background

  • Background: Use a white or light-colored background for optimal readability.
  • Font Colors:
    • Use dark colors (e.g., black, navy) on light backgrounds.
    • Avoid neon or excessively bright colors as they can be difficult to read on a digital screen.
    • Use accent colors sparingly to highlight key points or sections.
  • Contrast: Ensure high contrast between text and background for readability.

  1. Visuals

  • Images and Graphics: Use high-resolution images to avoid pixelation.
  • Charts and Graphs: Use bold colors that align with the overall theme; avoid complex or cluttered visuals.
  • Number of Visuals: Limit visuals to a few high-impact images or charts that directly support your message.
  • Captions: Include short captions under each visual to enhance understanding.
